Last Chance Gulch, circa 1870. Four prospectors, known as the Four Georgians, discovered gold in the Helena, Montana area in 1864. The thoroughfare which was built down the Gulch was originally named Main Street. It remained that way for some 85 years until it was renamed Last Chance Gulch. Helena boasted the highest number of millionaires per capita by 1888.
